The 2019 ISA Coaching and Instructing Course calendar has kicked off with successful courses run in Nicaragua, Scotland and the Maldives, amongst others. Building upon the success of the ISA Coaching and Instructing Program in 2018, these three ISA courses trained twenty-five new ISA instructors and confirmed the appointment of a new ISA Course Presenter in Scotland.
Nicaragua
From January 14-16, 2019, an ISA Surf Level 1 Course was conducted in El Tránsito, Nicaragua. The course was presented by Marcelo Castellanos, ISA Course Presenter from El Salvador, and supported by the FENISURF and Compassion Causes. The course was the third held in Nicaragua since 2017, but the first conducted in the northern region of the country. All the participants in the ISA Course were local instructors from the area and were overjoyed with the opportunity to professionalize their abilities as ISA surf instructors.
Stuardo Torres, ISA Course Participant said:
“Marcelo went above and beyond to help us learn how to do things properly and become the best coaches that we could be. On behalf of the entire group, we feel blessed to have taken this training because our desire is to become more professional. We hope that other surfers and surf schools in Nicaragua and beyond will see our professionalism as an example to be followed. Thank you to Marcelo and the ISA for the support in making this happen.”

Dara Ahmed, ISA Course Presenter in the Maldives, delivered the course which increased the number of internationally trained surf coaches and instructors in the country.
All ten of the participants in the ISA Course were local Maldivian instructors from different parts of the Maldives. These instructors will use the knowledge and skillset gained from the ISA Course to contribute towards the continued growth of Surfing in their nation.

Scotland
From January 20-21, 2019, the Scottish Surfing Federation organized an ISA Surf Level 1 Course in Thurso, Scotland with ISA Course Presenter Andy Joyce. Along with training new ISA instructors, one of the key objectives was to officially approve Scottish National Surfing Champion, Mark Boyd, as an ISA Course Presenter. Mark was assessed and assisted throughout the course by Andy Joyce and has now officially been approved to present ISA Courses in Scotland.
ISA Course Presenter Andy Joyce said:
“I really enjoyed this ISA course with the group of amazingly, enthusiastic surfers who loved sharing and participating throughout the course. It was an absolute pleasure to support Mark on his first course, he has a solid coaching background and brings this out in his confident delivery of the course. He will make an excellent ISA Course Presenter in Scotland moving forward.”
